The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law (the “Foundation”) is pleased to offer a leadership program for racially and ethnically diverse attorneys. The program is designed to allow attorneys who are persons of color to attend the Foundation’s seminal program, the Annual Institute, and to provide other opportunities to advance their careers and broaden their network. The program is intended for participants who might not otherwise be able to attend because of limited funding from their companies, firms, or organizations. The program includes the following benefits for the selected applicants:
- Complimentary registration to the Annual Natural Resources and Energy Law Institute.
- A stipend of $300 to offset travel and lodging expenses.
- A dinner or reception for program participants at the Annual Institute hosted by one or more Foundation leaders.
- Although attorneys of all age and gender are eligible and encouraged to apply, participants who are young professionals (defined as in your first 10 years of practice) will receive free registration to the Young Professionals Reception, and attorneys who identify as female will receive complimentary registration to Portia’s Lunch for Women.
- One or two virtual meetings before the Annual Institute with Foundation leaders to introduce participants to the Foundation and opportunities to advance their careers.
- A preference for opportunities to participate on a Foundation committee.
The program is open to practicing attorneys at all size firms, companies, and organizations who are Black, Indigenous, Latino or Latina, Asian-American, Pacific Islander, or other persons of color. Selected participants must also be practicing in one or more areas of natural resources or energy law, which includes oil & gas, renewable energy, electricity, mining, water law, environmental law, public lands, Indian law and Indigenous Peoples law, or related areas of international law, and must be interested in getting more involved in the Foundation. Participants will be selected by the Foundation’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee based on the overall diversity of the group of selected participants, including gender, geography, years of practice, practice type, practice area, and the size and type of employers. Although there will be a preference for Foundation Members, a few government employees or other Nonmembers may be selected based on interest.
